New Competition Season
The 2008-2009 competition season is underway with the Novice J&J competition on April 6th. In addition to our divisional Jack & Jill series we have some new and exciting competitions this year.
We are having two “open role” WCS Jack & Jill competitions – this is an opportunity for those ladies that would like to try their skills at leading and for some of you guys who would like to try following! We are also having two open (all levels) Night Club Two Step Jack & Jill comps as well as Masters J&J and Open Strictly Swing.

Where We Dance
The usual location for the Seattle Swing Dance Club lessons and social dances is the Alki Masonic Hall in West Seattle. The address is 4736 40th Avenue SW; Seattle, WA 98166. You will find us in the Social Hall on the (lower) ground floor of the building. There is parking adjacent to the building and in the large parking lot directly South of the building.
On the rare occasion when we dance at a different location, the address and a web link to that location will be in the calendar notice about that event.

These will be intermediate workshops. If you plan to attend you should be familiar with the basic six and eight count WC Swing foundation patterns.
The SSDC dance for April 20, 2008 will be held at the Alki Masonic Hall located at 4736 40th Avenue SW; Seattle 98116. The dance will run from 5:00 PM till 9:00.
There is a free basic West Coast Swing lesson at 4:00 that is open to anyone who has paid their admission fee to the dance. The entry fee is $5.00 for SSDC members (or members of affiliated clubs) and $9.00 for our guests.
The entertainment for the evening will be the first of two Night Club 2-Step competitions of the year. These will be open Jack & Jill competitions. Competitors must check in to the competition desk by 6:30 PM. The competition will begin promptly at 7:00.
Charles England at the April 6, 2008 SSDC Sunday Dance
The very dapper Charles England will be teaching the intermediate classes at the Seattle Swing Dance club on Sunday, April 6th. The lessons will begin at 2:45 with a second lesson at 4:00.

Next 14-Week Progressive WC Swing Class begins April 28, 2008
This class will take you from beginning up to an intermediate level in West Coast style of Swing. You get great teachers plus access to our music library.
The Class covers the 22 Foundational Patterns of West Coast Swing plus numerous techniques during the 14 weeks. The first six weeks you will learn the basic structure of WC Swing, many of the six-count patterns, and some four-count patterns. On week seven the class reviews the material learned to that point and participants have the opportunity to have a 20 minute private lesson with one of the instructors. Prerequisite for first seven-week session: ability to count to six (in any language) out loud while walking in a somewhat straight line.
In the second six weeks the class completes the remainder of the six-count patterns and all of the eight-count patterns. On week 14 the class reviews patterns learned during the second section and participants have a second opportunity to have private sessions with the instructors. Prerequisite for second seven-week session: successful completion of a first session.

Class dates/Time: Monday nights from 7:30 PM till 9:45 (includes one 15 minute break)
First seven weeks: 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/26, 6/2, 6/9 (Instructor: Jim Minty )
Second seven weeks: 6/16, 6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 7/28 (Instructor: Nancy Heaverlo)
Variations Class: August 4th
The instructors: Our lead instructors - Jim Minty, Nancy Heaverlo & Lynn Gross - are all certified as teachers by the Golden State Dance Teachers Association and as judges by the National Dance Dynamics Certification Board.
The Class Fee: $125.00 (Note: you must be a member of the SSDC or join the first night of the class.)

(2) Show up at the Juanita Community Club and pay at the door.

This Class will be limited to 60 students.
This class is appropriate for dancers new to WC Swing and for experienced WC Swing dancers who want to improve their dance skills. You must be a member of the
