Lynn Gross to Teach July 20th Classes at SSDC

Lynn Gross will teach the intermediate classes at the July 20th at SSDC. This will be a two-hour workshop beginning at 2:45 PM.

2:45 – 4:00 Spice Up Your WC Swing and increase your dance skills – with more turns!!  Add variety and more fun on the dance floor: hook turns, break turns, paddle turns, spot turns, slow motion turns, multiple turns, alternating turns, partnered pivots!  Pleasing turns…and playful, teasing turns.

The workshop fee is the usual $19.00 for SSDC members (and members of affiliated clubs) and $25.00 for our guests. The class fee gets you into both the workshop and the 5:00 PM social dance.

There will be a beginning workshop (upstairs) at 4:00 PM for those who would like to take a basic WC Swing class. This beginning class is free for anyone who has paid for admission to the 5:00 PM social dance.

A feature of the evening is the Intermediate and Advance Jack & Jill competition. Competitors must register at the competition desk no later than 6:30 PM. The Intermediate competition will begin at 7:00 PM, closely followed by the Advance contest.

Our DJ for the evening will be the inimitable Paul “Song Scout” Booth.

Last Progressive Class of 2008 Begins November 24th

November 24, 2008 will begin the last Progressive Class in 2008.  In these amazing classes students learn the 22 foundation patterns of West Coast Swing.  The first seven weeks focus on the 6-count patterns, the last seven weeks on 8-count patterns. 

SSDC Holiday Dance - December 21, 2008

SSDC Winter Holiday Dance.  This dance on December 21, 2008 is one of the most fun and exciting events held by the SSDC.  Lots of dancing, special treats, and the Master’s Jack & Jill competition.  The Holiday Dance will be held at The Alki Masonic Hall

No intermediate dance lesson.  Free beginner WC Swing Lesson with admission to the dance.

Chris Jones will provide the music for the 5:00 PM Social Dance.

WC Swing New Year’s Eve Party

New Year’s Eve Party. What would this club be without a party on New Year’s Eve? Come on out and count down the seconds with the Seattle Swing Dance Club and CutARug Productions. By the way, the date for this event is December 31, 2008. We are talking serious dancing, serious food, and serious fun.

Gary Jobst & Csilla Madocsai Workshop Weekend

A Weekend with Gary Jobst & Csilla Madocsai These two popular competitors and instructors will be in Seattle September 5th – 7th, 2008. The weekend begins with Workshops the evening of Friday (9/5/08) at Jay’s Dance Experience; continues with a day of sessions at the Juanita Community Club on Saturday (9/6/08) and ends with three workshops on Sunday (9/7/08) at the Alki Masonic Hall prior to the first Sunday Social Dance.

Cut your travel cost. If you are coming from far away for these classes please consider our Home Stay program as an option. We will put you up on Saturday night (August 2nd) with one of our club members. Not only will you save on your travel expenses but you will get to meet one of your fellow club members up close and personal. Our board member Lydia Lauritzen is coordinating the home-stays. The Schedule:

Two workshops at Jay’s Dance Exerience on Friday, September 5th. The workshops will begin at 7:00 PM and 8:15. Then stay and dance with DJ Hall of Fame Swing DJ Terry “Wild Wild” West from 9:15 on.

Four Workshops on Saturday, September 6th at the Juanita Community Club. Workshops begin at 12:15 PM. Each workshop will be one hour long with a 15 minute break between workshops.

Three Workshops on Sunday, Sept. 7th. The workshops will begin at 1:30 PM. Then hang out and practice those moves at the Seattle Swing Dance Club’s social dance from 5:00 PM till 9:00.

Note: these are all intermediate workshops. You must be familiar with the basic six and eight count WC Swing patterns in order to get the most out of the weekend.

 

There will be an Open Strictly Swing competition during the social dance. Competitors must sign in by 6:30 PM and the competition will commence at 7:00 sharp. Guest judges will be Gary and Csilla.

1:30PM - Still Can’t Hit the Breaks? (How to hit the breaks when you can’t hear it in the music)

2:45PM - Twist & Turn (Fun turning/and spinning variations for both leaders and followers)

4:00PM - CSI: Seattle (you’ll just have to come and find out for yourself what this class is about - for all levels)

Private Lessons:  Gary and Csilla will be available to teach private lessons on Friday beginning in the late morning and on Sunday morning and some Monday sessions.  The cost of the private lessons (one hour each) are:

Csilla - $65.00            Gary - $75.00            Both together - $95.00

We will give you the information about specific time slots and how to book a private lesson in early August.   Note:  Workshop attendees have priority in booking private lessons with Gary and Csilla.

July 6th SSDC Dance at the Masonic Hall

July 6 2008 is the SSDC first Sunday Dance. The location will be at the Alki Masonic Hall. No Intermediate WC Swing Classes at this dance (too many conflicting events going on).

There will be a beginning WC Swing class (upstairs) at 3:30 PM. This class is free with your admission to the social dance ($5.00 for members/$9.00 for guests).

From 4:30 PM – 5:00 will be an orientation to new SSDC members. This will be hosted by the Board of Directors. Come and learn all about member services, the club cultlure, club history, and a little about what goes on behind the scenes.  This will also be the club’s Annual Membership Meeting.

Seattle Swing Dance Club Annual Picnic

SSDC Picnic & Dance

It’s coming!! The SSDC Annual Picnic will be August 24, 2008. This is one of the Free-For-Members events that make people sit up and take notice. We start out with a picnic on the Grounds of the Hogland House B & B overlooking Puget Sound. There is eating, socializing and lawn games through the afternoon. The picnic begins at noon. It is a potluck with the SSDC providing the salmon. Click on HOGLAND HOUSE for driving directions and information about this historic bed and breakfast.

Then in the evening you get to work off the salmon and potato salad with a dance that evening at the Dorothy Jayne Studio in Everett. The dance is 5:00 PM till 9:00 with a fun-filled “Open” Jack & Jill competition. That means a beginner could end up with Jim Minty or Katie McCaslin as their partner.  Click on DOROTHY JAYNE for driving directions.

And the best part??? It’s free for members of the SSDC.

Michele Perron Teaches on June 15th at the SSDC

June 15, 2008 is the SSDC third Sunday Dance. The location will be at the Alki Masonic Hall. Intermediate WC Swing Classes will be at 2:45 PM and 4:00 PM. The class fee is $19.00 for SSDC members and $25.00 for our guests. The class fee includes both classes and admission to the 5:00 PM Social Dance. The workshop instructor will be Michele Perron.

2:45 PM – Tuck Me In, Turn Me Out [Tuck & Turn Variations]

4:00 PM – Music Styling [Dance to the Music]

There will also be a beginning WC Swing class (upstairs) at 4:00 PM. This class is free with your admission to the social dance ($5.00 for members/$9.00 for guests).

A highlight of the evening is the Open Role Jack & Jill competition. This competition is open to all dancers regardless of your competition classification – or lack thereof. This will be a fun competition and if you have never competed, this one would be a good one to try. The “open roll” means that competitors of either sex may choose to either lead or follow. Competitors must register with the Competition desk by 6:30 PM with the competition starting promptly at 7:00 PM.
