Progressive Class Variations Night - August 4, 2008
Jim Minty Teaches at the August 17th Dance
Jim Minty teaches at SSDC on August 17, 2008. This is the SSDC third Sunday Dance. The location will be at the Alki Masonic Hall. Intermediate WC Swing Classes will be at 2:45 PM and 4:00 PM.
2:45: West Coast &a1 – Connection Challenge. Will take some basic patterns and principles and twist them up in weird ways to give you options to play with. Ideally will come away from this with a better understanding of the principles so that you can free up your creativity.
4:00: West Coast &a2 – Phrasing, It is not just about being able to execute patterns its about building partnership between you , your partner and the Music.
The class fee is $19.00 for SSDC members and $25.00 for our guests. The class fee includes both classes and admission to the 5:00 PM Social Dance.
There will also be a beginning WC Swing class (upstairs) at 4:00 PM. This class is free with your admission to the social dance ($7.00 for members/$11.00 for guests).
A highlight of the evening is the Intermediate & Advance Jack & Jill competition. Competitors must register with the Competition desk by 6:30 PM with the competition starting promptly at 7:00 PM. The DJ for this historic dance is Paul Booth.

It’s coming!! The SSDC Annual Picnic will be August 24, 2008. This is one of the Free-For-Members events that make people sit up and take notice. We start out with a picnic on the Grounds of the Hogland House B & B overlooking

New 14-Week Progressive Class begins August 11, 2008
This class will take you from beginning up to an intermediate level in West Coast style of Swing. You get great teachers plus access to our music library.
The Class covers the 22 Foundational Patterns of West Coast Swing plus numerous techniques during the 14 weeks. The first six weeks you will learn the basic structure of WC Swing, many of the six-count patterns, and some four-count patterns. On week seven the class reviews the material learned to that point and participants have the opportunity to purchase a 20 minute private lesson with one of the instructors (only nine slots will be available). Prerequisite for first seven-week session: ability to count to six (in any language) out loud while walking in a somewhat straight line.
In the second six weeks the class completes the remainder of the six-count patterns and all of the eight-count patterns. On week 14 the class reviews patterns learned during the second section and participants have a second opportunity to have private sessions with the instructors (again, nine slots will be available for purchase). Prerequisite for second seven-week session: successful completion of a first session.

First seven weeks: August 11 – 22, 2008
Second seven weeks: September 29 – November 10, 2008
Variations Class: November 17, 2008 ($10 drop-in class)
The instructors: Our lead instructors - Jim Minty, Nancy Heaverlo & Lynn Gross - are all certified as teachers by the Golden State Dance Teachers Association and as judges by the National Dance Dynamics Certification Board.
The Class Fee: $125.00 (Note: you must be a member of the SSDC or join the first night of the class.)

SSDC Newcomer event - August 2 & 3, 2008
SSDC Newcomers Event
This is a two-day beginning West Coast Swing class. It is only open to people who are not members of the Seattle Swing Dance club.
The event will include seven hours of dance classes, two dances over the weekend and dinner on Saturday (August 2nd ), and a one-year membership to the SSDC. The schedule is below.
Saturday Schedule:
- Dance class from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Social Dance from 5:00 PM – 9:00
- Dinner 6:00 PM
- Dance class 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM
- Social dance 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Cut your travel cost. If you are coming from far away for these classes please consider our Home Stay program as an option. We will put you up on Saturday night (August 2nd) with one of our club members. Not only will you save on your travel expenses but you will get to meet one of your fellow club members up close and personal. Our board member
Volunteers Needed: We need SSDC volunteers to help with dance hosting on Saturday night, and help with food prep on Sunday. Contact Mike Chambers to volunteer. His contact info is above.
Potluck Dinner: The dinner on Sunday will be a potluck. The SSDC will bring the entree. The swing club members are asked to bring salads, bread, and dessert.
